About the position

The Regional Affairs Analyst at the California Independent System Operator (ISO) plays a crucial role in supporting the External Affairs division by examining utility issues and conducting outreach to stakeholders across the Western United States. This position emphasizes regional coordination and business development, ensuring effective stakeholder engagement in ISO processes that impact the region. The analyst will monitor and analyze the work of electric utilities and other organizations, attend industry meetings, and assist in developing outreach strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and report on relevant western utility matters impacting the ISO.
  • Summarize key themes and action items from utility industry workshops and meetings.
  • Maintain a current inventory and technical knowledge of key regional initiatives in the utility sector.
  • Act as an internal liaison to ensure awareness of important regional matters and industry events.
  • Incorporate feedback from regional industry stakeholders to address their concerns.
  • Coordinate with departments to align messaging and direction.
  • Support new stakeholders with background information and educational opportunities about the ISO.
  • Maintain updated industry stakeholder contact lists and organize important documents.
  • Coordinate with the Communications division to ensure up-to-date information is available on the ISO and Western Energy Market websites.
  • Prepare background research for management in advance of meetings and outreach engagements.
  • Assist in developing talking points and presentations for ISO management and executives.
  • Participate in the government affairs on-call schedule for effective outreach.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Policy, Economics, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Two or more years of related experience in policy development, regulatory processes, government affairs, or account management.
  • Experience in the energy industry is helpful.
