About the position

The Regional Bridge Inspector Supervisor at WSDOT is responsible for overseeing the statewide bridge inspection program, ensuring the safety and reliability of approximately 3,600 WSDOT-owned bridges. This role involves scheduling, coordinating inspections, managing personnel, and providing training to ensure compliance with FHWA and WSDOT standards. The position supports WSDOT's mission of providing safe and efficient transportation by maintaining the integrity of the state's bridge infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Develop a master list of all bridges and tunnels for required inspections.
• Identify required inspection equipment and assign personnel for inspections.
• Coordinate with WSDOT Bridge Maintenance crews for scheduling repairs and maintenance work.
• Manage workload balances and accommodate scheduled leave requests for unit personnel.
• Oversee the QC program for all structures inspected within the assigned Regional Inspection Work Unit.
• Review completed bridge inspection reports and conduct in-field operations reviews.
• Provide formal training and mentoring to work unit members in bridge inspection.
• Maintain certifications and oversee program safety requirements.
• Serve as a Senior Lead Bridge Inspector, managing inspection planning and report preparation.
• Manage statewide bridge emergency phone for 24/7 emergency response services.

Requirements

• Registration in the State of Washington as a Professional Engineer (PE).
• Ability to work at heights exceeding 100 feet and in confined spaces.
• Valid unrestricted driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

• Four years as a senior lead inspector or equivalent experience.
• Certification as a 'Competent Person' for fall protection program preparation.
