The Registered Nurse in the Labor and Delivery unit at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) plays a crucial role in providing individualized and compassionate nursing care to women carrying babies with fetal anomalies. The Special Delivery Unit (SDU) is a unique facility that delivers approximately 400 babies per year and is the world's first birthing facility located within a pediatric hospital. This unit is equipped with two operating rooms, a 15-bedded Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) area, and two infant stabilization rooms. The nursing staff is supported by a 24-hour obstetrician, certified nurse midwife, and obstetrical technologists, ensuring comprehensive care for mothers before, during, and after delivery. As a Clinical Nurse, you will practice at various levels of nursing expertise, from advanced beginner to expert, guided by the CHOP Nursing Professional Practice Model. You will be responsible for delivering safe, compassionate, and culturally effective care, following the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. This role requires collaboration with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care and develop individualized plans that focus on outcomes and interventions. You will also be expected to adhere to the ANA Code of Ethics and the standards of clinical nursing practice, ensuring that care is delivered within the defined scope of practice as designated by the Nurse Practice Acts of Pennsylvania and/or New Jersey. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the position emphasizes the importance of effective communication, documentation, and collaboration within the healthcare team. You will be expected to model professional behaviors, expand your clinical judgment and critical thinking skills, and participate in professional development initiatives. CHOP is committed to fostering an inclusive culture where employees feel a sense of belonging and connection, and encourages candidates from diverse backgrounds to apply.
