About the position

Fairview Health Services is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Med/Surg 6 unit at the M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - West Bank Campus in Minneapolis, MN. The Med/Surg RN will provide care to medical surgical adult patients with medical conditions that require close observation, monitoring, and interventions. This role is essential for delivering outstanding healthcare in a setting that specializes in innovation. The RN will be part of a team that continually aims to improve patients' lives by delivering outstanding outcomes using groundbreaking technology and treatments while balancing patient needs. The partnership with the University of Minnesota Medical School and University of Minnesota Physicians allows the RN to specialize in breakthrough treatments, surgical techniques, lifesaving therapies, and clinical trials, bringing the newest insights to patient care. The position requires working 0.75 FTE (60 hours every two weeks) with a shift length of 12 hours on the Night Shift, including an every third weekend rotation (Friday, Saturday, Sunday). The Med/Surg 6 WB Unit consists of 24 beds, including 12 telemetry beds, and the RN will manage a patient assignment of 4-5 patients. The team is prepared to work with a variety of adult patient diagnoses, including sepsis, overdoses/withdrawals, surgical procedures, telemetry, diabetes, pneumonia, altered mental status, and more. Adaptability, willingness to learn, and critical thinking skills are crucial for success in this fast-paced environment. The RN must be flexible, collaborative, and dedicated to always putting the patient first.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct ongoing assessments as determined by patient's condition and/or hospital policies, procedures, or protocols and prioritize care accordingly.
  • Establish and implement nursing care plans for assigned patient populations through assessment, development, activation, evaluation, and discharge.
  • Prioritize, delegate, and maintain oversight of duties and responsibilities of other staff members as a team leader.
  • Maintain confidentiality in matters related to patient, family, and facility.
  • Demonstrate the ability to deliver care or service by adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of the population served.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and health care team members.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Valid RN License from MN Board of Nursing
  • New grads with inpatient clinical experience are encouraged to apply.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher
  • Preferred experience working as an RN
