About the position

The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is the state of Florida's social services agency. The agency oversees services for child safety, fostering, adoption, domestic violence, adult protective services, refugees, homelessness, mental health, substance abuse, childcare providers, human trafficking and public assistance. The agency's mission is to work in partnership with local communities to protect the vulnerable, promote strong and economically self-sufficient families, and advance personal and family recovery and resiliency. Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders. Northeast Florida State Hospital (NEFSH) is a 613-bed, licensed mental health treatment facility that provides person-centered services to adults suffering from severe and persistent mental illness. The hospital, located in Macclenny, was established in 1959 and is the largest state operated civil treatment facility. NORTHEAST FLORIDA STATE HOSPITAL IS A TOBACCO FREE FACILITY.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 20 hours per week of functional skills and/or job coaching groups by planning, coordinating, and conducting same to include simulation exercises and classroom activities.
  • Conduct reinforcer activities with the people served, based on their progress toward functional skills acquisition.
  • Complete Rehabilitation Assessments, monitor performance, provide written observation, outcomes, and recommendations for future treatment.
  • Provide information to individuals' Service Teams.
  • Develop task analysis and conduct skill training and 1:1 services in a learning environment.
  • Participate/conduct community field trips, Invivo activities, special hospital-wide activities and operate drop-in areas as scheduled.
  • Operate a 15-passenger van to transport persons served in community outings.
  • Attend meetings, seminars, and training sessions as required.
  • Participate in on-going in-service education for professional development.
  • Assist in the escorting and monitoring of the people served.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in an allied health field, one of the behavioral or rehabilitative sciences, music therapy, music education, or music, physical education with course work in adaptive physical education, vocational education, sociology, trades and arts education, industrial arts education, leisure studies with course work in therapeutic recreation, or horticulture therapy is preferred.

Nice-to-haves
