The Reliability Engineer position at Novelis Oswego is a pivotal role that focuses on the development, implementation, and execution of reliability master plans. This role is essential for ensuring the optimum availability of assets while maintaining them at the lowest total cost of ownership. The Reliability Engineer will work closely with various teams to facilitate critical analyses and improvements in equipment reliability, ultimately contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of manufacturing operations. In this role, the Reliability Engineer will facilitate Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) and coordinate Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for significant failures. They will utilize downtime analysis to identify gaps and propose engineering solutions to address repetitive equipment failures. The engineer will also be responsible for developing and implementing asset care strategies for critical assets, ensuring that preventive and predictive maintenance programs are refined systematically. Regular interaction with operators, crafts, planners, and engineers will be necessary to ensure the effectiveness of the Predictive Maintenance system. The Reliability Engineer will also act as a representative during new equipment installations and modifications, ensuring that reliability and maintainability are considered in the design phase. Additionally, they will support the maintenance and updates of the plant's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and collaborate with regional and global reliability teams to execute reliability initiatives and programs. This position is integral to Novelis' commitment to operational excellence and sustainability in its manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) as specified by the department.
  • Coordinate and/or perform Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for all significant failures in the department or impacted manufacturing units.
  • Use downtime analysis to identify gaps where engineering solutions can address repetitive equipment failures.
  • Coordinate the development, implementation, and asset care strategy for each critical asset in the manufacturing unit.
  • Interact with operators, crafts, planners, schedulers, associate leaders, and engineers to ensure the effectiveness of the PM / Predictive Maintenance system.
  • Provide administration, control, and analysis of all data, records, and equipment histories to continually review and refine PM frequencies.
  • Work with Predictive Maintenance technicians to expand, improve, or optimize the use of Predictive Maintenance techniques.
  • Develop and refine the preventive/predictive maintenance program systematically.
  • Act as the Reliability representative on new equipment installations and modifications to ensure full life cycle costing, reliability, and maintainability are considered.
  • Support maintenance and updates of plant CMMS systems and software, including the addition of materials to stores.
  • Collaborate with regional, global, and other reliability employees in the implementation and execution of reliability initiatives and programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelors' Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently both written and orally.
  • Good digital literacy.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelors' Degree in an Engineering Field.
  • Knowledge or experience with CMMS systems (SAP preferred).
  • Certification as a CMRP (Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional).
