About The Position

The Remote Coder III position at Community Health Systems involves providing inpatient coding assistance for a set of supported hospitals. The role requires reviewing patient records and assigning accurate codes for diagnoses and procedures, ensuring compliance with coding standards and corporate policies. The coder will work remotely, primarily focusing on inpatient records, and will be responsible for maintaining high productivity and accuracy levels in coding.

Requirements

• High School Education or GED required.
• ICD-10-CM & PCS certification required.
• Associate or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field preferred.
• Knowledge of related prospective payment systems, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
• Broad knowledge of pharmacology indications for drug usage and related adverse reactions.
• 2 years' acute care hospital inpatient coding experience preferred.
• Experience coding complex cardiac and neuroscience procedures preferred.
• Required License/Registration/Certification: CIC, CCS, RHIA, or RHIT.
• Computer skills: Experience with virtual desktop image, electronic medical record systems, encoding systems, word processing, and spreadsheet software.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in outpatient coding.
• Knowledge of coding complex cardiac and neuroscience procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform remote coding for CHS hospitals via scanned medical records and access to hospital abstracting systems.
• Code inpatient records and may have experience in outpatient coding.
• Submit queries to providers for documentation clarification, including diagnosis clarification based on clinical indicators and coding specificity requirements.
• Consult with the Manager, Corporate Coding or other resources to resolve difficult codes and coding problems.
• Attend scheduled coding education sessions.
• Maintain productivity levels set forth by Community Health Systems while achieving a 95% coding accuracy rate.
