About the position

The Remote Engineer position at American Electric Power focuses on providing intermediate to expert-level engineering support for electrical engineering services related to rotating machines in the Generation business unit. The role involves troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving systems and equipment, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and collaborating with various teams to enhance operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Configure, administer, implement, and maintain specialized programs/systems/equipment to support the Generation Organization.
  • Support the development and maintenance of processes and programs to keep equipment operational.
  • Troubleshoot system/equipment hardware and software.
  • Schedule, perform, and test system/equipment upgrades.
  • Review and approve plans for changes and/or modifications.
  • Maintain strict documentation standards for specialized programs/systems/equipment.
  • Electronically archive records for historical purposes.
  • Serve as the primary contact for historical information or future enhancements.
  • Develop, implement, and improve tools to automate managing and reporting functions.
  • Communicate and collaborate with local and/or remote resources to manage specialized programs/systems/equipment.
  • Work with Plant Staff and Management to facilitate local programs for specialized systems/equipment.
  • Collaborate with other sites to promote consistency and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in planning and implementing projects for new program requirements or system/equipment upgrades.
  • Lead and coordinate work activities of others within the work group or department.
  • Assure safety of all activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program and four years of related engineering experience; or a Master's degree in engineering with two years of experience; or a PhD in engineering may be considered for entry-level.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge in electrical engineering and rotating machines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with NERC Compliance Regulatory requirements.
  • Familiarity with inspection and troubleshooting of generators and rotating equipment.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software related to engineering applications.
