About the position

The Research Assistant 2 position at Oregon Health & Science University focuses on advancing cancer research through the development of innovative in vitro models. The role involves working within The Franca Lab, which studies interactions between early-stage head and neck cancers and various biological systems using advanced techniques such as 3D cell culture and microfluidics. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the principal investigator and graduate students, contributing to research that aims to enhance understanding of cancer biology.

Responsibilities

  • Manage basic laboratory operations including instrumentation maintenance, biosafety, lab orders, and inventory.
  • Conduct biological and engineering-related experiments with cells and microfluidic devices.
  • Participate in the development of microfluidic devices to study early cancer biology.
  • Assist and instruct other lab members with scientific methods and laboratory techniques.
  • Perform image analysis experiments and operate computers and related software.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with organs-on-a-chip, 3D printing, or tissue engineering.
  • Ability to conduct research in a multidisciplinary, fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Experience in laboratory manipulations and working with microfluidic devices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience with 3D modeling and analysis of gene datasets.
  • Experience with CAD design and optimization of microfluidic devices.
  • Familiarity with establishing protocols and SOPs, lab organization, and inventory tracking.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn new techniques.
