The Research Associate position at the Center for Agricultural Synthetic Biology (UTIA) at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is a full-time role focused on advancing agricultural practices through genetic engineering. The role requires proficiency in a range of laboratory techniques including PCR, plasmid DNA isolation, restriction enzyme digestions, gel extractions, yeast transformation, and plant transformation. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for preparing media and buffers, maintaining greenhouse conditions, and performing other laboratory tasks as necessary. A critical aspect of the position involves creating experimental designs and assisting in the development of standardized research protocols to ensure the integrity and quality of the data collected. The candidate will also be tasked with data quality assurance, which is essential for the success of the research projects undertaken by the lab. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in plant biology, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, or a related field, along with at least three years of relevant laboratory research experience. A Master's degree in a similar field is preferred. Preference will be given to applicants who have publications and demonstrate a strong motivation and drive for research.
