About the position

The Research Associate I, Histology and Morphometrics position at Actalent involves providing laboratory support for histology and morphometrics. This role includes operating automated equipment, maintaining lab supplies, preparing study materials, and handling biological samples. The associate will support GLP testing on various tissue types, maintain records, assist in data analysis, and prepare laboratory reports, while also rotating between functions in the Translational Biology department.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in conducting experiments and data collection at the direction of research associates and scientists.
  • Perform laboratory maintenance and help maintain a clean and safe working environment while ensuring compliance with GCP/GLP guidelines.
  • Maintain laboratory instrumentation including various types of label makers, printers, cryostats, microscopes, stainers, and slide scanners.
  • Prepare clinical and non-clinical study materials to support various programs.
  • Prepare and maintain reagents and chemical inventory.
  • Consistently and accurately maintain compliant laboratory records and study documents.
  • Process tissue, blood, urine, and other samples as needed.
  • Perform routine and complex laboratory procedures in histology using frozen section and FFPE techniques.
  • Assist in the execution of GLP clinical and non-clinical study sample processing, staining, and analysis using various assay formats.
  • Maintain freezer inventory of clinical and non-clinical samples using electronic forms of tracking (Excel, Freezerworks, etc.)

Requirements

  • 1 or more years of relevant experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in Histology or Cytology.
  • Microtomy or Cryosectioning skills.
  • Ability to execute sample handling and analysis with strict adherence to laboratory methods and SOPs.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with multiple parties.
  • Problem-solving skills to address complex issues and develop new procedures or policies.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic, highly organized, and attentive to detail.
  • Desire to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, and collaborative team environment.
  • Proficiency with computer productivity software (i.e., Word, Excel).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work extended hours as needed, including weekends and holidays.
