About the position

The Research Associate will lead the analysis of animal GPS tracking data as part of an interdisciplinary team. This role is crucial in assisting the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife to address concerns regarding the prevalence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in Maine wildlife and the potential health risks to humans from consuming wild game. The position is funded through soft-money, with a typical hiring range of $44,507 to $60,000 based on qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the analysis of animal GPS tracking data.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to address PFAS concerns in wildlife.
  • Assist the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife in research efforts.
  • Manage and curate large datasets, including GIS data.
  • Apply quantitative modeling approaches using R programming.

Requirements

  • M.S. in Wildlife Ecology, Fisheries, Conservation Biology, or a related discipline.
  • At least 1 year of relevant professional experience, or education earned during completion of a PhD may substitute for experience.
  • Significant experience in R programming for quantitative modeling.
  • Demonstrated experience managing large datasets and GIS data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience working in the R Shiny environment.
  • History of working with management agencies or conservation partners.
