About the position

The Research Associate in Population Health at the University of Kansas Medical Center will support the Principal Investigator (PI) in bridging the gap between the African American community and researchers. This role focuses on launching a Kansas Birth Equity Network aimed at enhancing maternal and infant health through empowerment and education, while also managing various programs related to obstetrics and gynecology.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach to implement a birth equity network that promotes, maintains, and improves maternal, paternal, and infant health in the African American community.
  • Provide information on available resources, social support, informal counseling, and advocacy for individuals and community health needs.
  • Collect data to identify community health needs and assess community engagement satisfaction within the African American community.
  • Establish trusting relationships with community members, coalitions, providers, and their families while providing general support and encouragement.
  • Create and monitor the OBGYN BEST application process.
  • Assist with the coordination of the scholarship and BEST program.
  • Coordinate L&D birth equity work.
  • Assist with creating a data management form to ensure equity in data collection.
  • Coordinate and assist with managing future grants, including the Doula program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a health-related field, human behavior, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all organizational levels and work collaboratively as part of a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a health-related field, human behavior, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience working with the African American community and Kansas Birth Equity Network.
  • Ability to be self-directed, manage, organize, set, and accomplish project goals.
