About the position

The Research Associate position at the University of Utah involves developing and managing research projects and grant proposals within the Department of Pharmacotherapy Outcome Research. The role requires a strong foundation in scientific design, execution, and interpretation of research findings. The Research Associate will be responsible for presenting results and publishing manuscripts, contributing to the academic community and advancing knowledge in the healthcare field. This position is integral to the research team, requiring collaboration with both internal and external investigators to ensure the scientific significance and feasibility of multiple research projects. In this role, the Research Associate will stay current with relevant scientific literature, set up new methodologies to achieve research objectives, and identify creative solutions to overcome challenges encountered during research. The position also involves organizing and interpreting data to derive meaningful conclusions from studies, managing and training research staff, and contributing to educational initiatives by preparing and presenting seminars. Additionally, the Research Associate will assist in grant preparation by researching background information, significance, and statistical planning, and may attend national conferences to present research findings. The successful candidate will be expected to efficiently manage research projects and coordinate with research team leadership to develop effective strategies. This position is full-time, with a standard work schedule of 40 hours per week, primarily during the day shift.

Responsibilities

  • Develops scientific research projects and may act as a co-principal investigator.
  • Researches and stays current with project related scientific literature.
  • Sets up new methods to accomplish scientific objectives.
  • Identifies and implements creative solutions to overcome problems.
  • Organizes, interprets data, and derives study conclusions.
  • Manages and trains research staff to achieve research goals.
  • Collaborates with internal and external investigators on multiple research projects ensuring scientific significance and feasibility.
  • Summarizes results of observational, evaluation and clinical studies in the form of scientific abstracts and manuscripts.
  • Serves as a resource to provide scientific information needed for various initiatives.
  • Contributes to teaching activities by preparing and presenting educational seminars.
  • Assists with grant preparation by researching background, significance, and planning statistics.
  • May attend national conferences and presents results of studies or evaluations.

Requirements

  • An advanced degree in health (PhD, MD, PharmD) and at least 2 years of research experience in the healthcare field.
  • Excellent skills in written and verbal communication.
  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with writing and submitting federal grants to the National Institutes of Health and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
  • More than 10 peer-review publications in high quality medical-related journals.
  • Experience with medication adverse event reporting systems throughout the world.
