About the position

The Research Chemical Engineer at Susteon will play a critical role in the development and commercialization of innovative CO2 utilization technologies. This position focuses on transforming CO2 into valuable chemicals and products, contributing to the company's mission of advancing environmental sustainability and mitigating climate change. The engineer will work closely with a dedicated team, leveraging their technical expertise to support laboratory and bench-scale operations, process design, and technology development.

Responsibilities

  • Work as a critical part of the CO2 utilization team, focusing on the development and commercialization of technologies from laboratory to bench-scale.
  • Perform laboratory and bench-scale operations, analyzing test results to support technology performance and commercialization.
  • Design, build, and optimize reactors and operating conditions for converting CO2 to valuable products/chemicals.
  • Develop thermodynamic, steady-state, and rate-based process models in AspenPlus, validated against experimental results.
  • Conduct techno-economic and life-cycle analysis for the overall system.
  • Provide ideas and support for technology development focused on CO2 conversion into chemicals.
  • Establish process control, automation, safety protocols, and operating procedures for laboratory and bench-scale test units.
  • Support the development of process designs for new technologies.
  • Assist in the preparation of research proposals and invention disclosures, as well as patent applications.

Requirements

  • M.S. in Chemical Engineering with 2-4 years of industrial experience OR Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering with 0-3 years of experience.
  • Strong understanding of catalytic and/or thermochemical approaches for CO2 conversion.
  • Hands-on experience with lab and bench equipment design, construction, operations, and data analysis.
  • Experience in catalyst/material synthesis for CO2 utilization systems and data analysis.
  • Experience in developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and design of experiments.
  • Familiarity with analytical instruments such as GC, GC-MS, FTIR, Ion Chromatography, NMR, etc.
  • Proficiency in using AspenPlus/HySYS and/or COMSOL/Ansys.
  • Basic understanding of cost estimation methodology for chemical plants and processes.
  • Proficiency in process control programs including Rockwell, LabView, and/or TwinCAT.
  • Strong aptitude for chemical process design, including developing PFDs, P&IDs, and equipment specifications.
