About the position

The Research Program Coordinator at Bowie State University is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of research studies within the Natural Sciences department. This role involves coordinating data management, ensuring compliance with grant expenditures, evaluating projects, scheduling meetings, and interfacing with research subjects. The coordinator serves as a key contact for study participants and research personnel, adhering to clinical practices and study protocols while contributing to team objectives and problem-solving.

Responsibilities

  • Develop surveys and order research and office items.
  • Undergo training through IRB to collect and analyze data.
  • Promote the program for student hiring and manage their payment and disbursement of funds.
  • Assist in developing academic and industrial collaborations.
  • Generate quotes, purchase orders, and maintain records for grant purposes.
  • Support the generation of grant reports.
  • Maintain instruments and inventory of purchased items through the grant.
  • Assist in supervising research in molecular, biochemical, bioenergy, bioinformatics, and cell biology fields.
  • Provide support to various labs conducted during coursework.
  • Assist in writing manuscripts and generating data for grants.
  • Work with faculty to maintain inventory and supervise daily lab chores.
  • Oversee and maintain experimental plants in the greenhouse.

Requirements

  • B.S. or higher in Biology, Biological Science, Biomedical Sciences or related field required.
  • Excellent organizational skills with demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Experience with undergraduate and graduate research management or implementation preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with a strong work ethic.
  • Knowledge of common laboratory procedures and laboratory safety.
  • Knowledge of research ethics and research integrity.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Experience working with various stakeholders, including underrepresented minorities in STEM.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. or PhD in Biology, Biological Science, Biomedical Sciences or related field preferred.
