About the position

The Research Technician II position at Atrium Health Specialty Services is a grant-funded role that involves performing laboratory research with minimal supervision. The technician will assist in the design and development of experiments, including the creation of new methodologies. This position requires overseeing all aspects of the biochemical laboratory environment, ensuring that safety procedures are followed, and maintaining accurate record logs. The technician will also be responsible for ordering supplies and managing the laboratory environment to facilitate efficient research operations. In this role, the technician will conduct chemical analyses for both basic science and clinical projects, utilizing radioisotopes for measurements. They will assist other laboratory staff in completing analytical procedures and will be expected to teach both theoretical and practical aspects of chemical analyses to colleagues. Additionally, the technician will establish and develop new methodologies for chemical analyses, contributing to the advancement of research within the department. The position requires a proactive approach to laboratory management, including scheduling the use of equipment and ensuring that all laboratory activities are conducted in compliance with safety regulations. The technician will also play a key role in the analysis and preparation of data for publication and presentation, providing essential support to primary investigators in their research endeavors.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and directs all aspects of chemical analyses required in the department, including basic science and clinical projects.
  • Performs measurements using radioisotopes.
  • Assists other laboratory staff with the completion of analytical procedures.
  • Teaches theoretical and practical aspects of chemical analyses to other staff members.
  • Oversees the laboratory environment, including safety procedures, record logs, and ordering of supplies.
  • Teaches others how to use equipment and schedules the use of the equipment to complete experiments.
  • Establishes and develops new methodologies for chemical analyses.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred.
  • 3 years of experience in a related scientific field preferred.
  • Ability to calculate and formulate chemical solutions.
  • Experience with pertinent equipment.
  • Familiarity with techniques for examining oxygen free radicals, mitochondrial function, and enzymology preferred.
