About the position

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University at Buffalo is seeking a Research Technician II to support our research initiatives. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with animal protocols within our research laboratory. The successful candidate will be responsible for writing and amending protocols, maintaining a mouse colony, and performing small animal technical work. This includes assisting with tumor models and ensuring that daily monitoring is conducted by students involved in the research projects. The technician will also be involved in the administration of therapeutic agents to mice and rats via tail-vein injections, as well as performing blood collection from these animals. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to maintain cells in tissue culture and engage with graduate students on various research projects, fostering a collaborative environment within the lab. The position requires a strong background in biotechnology and research laboratory experience, particularly in handling small animals and conducting technical procedures. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least three years of relevant experience. Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with animal protocols in the research laboratory.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or two years formal training in related fields (biotechnology, toxicology, medicine, biology, etc.).
  • At least 3 years of experience directly related to the project or program.
  • Experience with tail vein injections of mice.
  • Experience handling rats and performing blood collection from mice and rats.
  • Experience with tissue culture and rodent tumor studies.
  • Experience with small animal surgery.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in related fields (biotechnology, toxicology, medicine, biology, etc.) is preferred.
  • Experience with handling mice and conducting small animal surgeries.
