About the position

The position involves conducting experimental research lab work and assisting in the design of specific phases of entire projects. Responsibilities include performing mathematical calculations, computer tasks, and judging the validity of data while adhering to appropriate protocols, policies, procedures, regulations, Good Clinical and Good Laboratory Practices.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct molecular biology techniques including DNA, RNA, and protein isolation, purification, and expression.
  • Perform Southern, Northern, and Western blotting.
  • Execute PCR and RT-PCR.
  • Prepare plasmids and conduct cloning, mapping, and sequencing of DNA.
  • Produce and purify recombinant viruses.
  • Conduct cellular biology tasks such as cell culture and isolation.
  • Perform functional studies and transfection.
  • Handle histology tasks including tissue fixation, processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining.
  • Conduct immunohistochemistry and microscopy.
  • Utilize immunology techniques such as flow cytometry, ELISA, Elispot assay, and cytokine assay.
  • Produce and purify antibodies.
  • Manage animal husbandry, breeding, and screening of transgenic mice.
  • Perform dissections, blood collection, and surgical procedures.
  • Maintain detailed records of results and manage data.
  • Prepare charts and graphs for presentations and publications.
  • Conduct scientific literature searches to support research.
  • Assist in grant applications, manuscripts, and publications.
  • Track and summarize lab supply expenses and verify invoice accuracy.
  • Order and maintain inventory of reagents, mice, and lab supplies.
  • Supervise and train students.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a scientific major or related field, or an appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated laboratory experience.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions as required by research protocols.
  • Demonstrated computer skills, including spreadsheets and basic computations.
  • Attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Manual dexterity.
