About the position

As a Researcher in Battery and Propulsion System Architecture at General Motors, you will be part of the Research and Development team, focusing on innovating next-generation technologies for advanced electric propulsion systems. This role involves conducting research, simulations, and experiments to validate new ideas, developing technical plans, and synthesizing optimal specifications for battery systems. You will also be responsible for writing research reports and collaborating with various teams to drive forward the development of novel battery systems and propulsion architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Develop next-generation technologies for advanced electric propulsion systems, focusing on battery systems and propulsion system architecture.
  • Develop and execute technical plans, including concept generation, development, and evaluation.
  • Lead technical discussions and reviews as a technical specialist.
  • Maintain state-of-the-art knowledge in related areas of responsibility.
  • Communicate ideas, plans, and results effectively via presentations and written reports.
  • Coordinate efforts between peers, management, operations groups, and outside organizations.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical, Electrical, or Energy Systems Engineering.
  • 2+ years of research, postdoc, or industry experience.
  • Knowledge in electric propulsion system architecture.
  • Knowledge in battery systems including pack/module/cell.
  • Knowledge in battery thermal management systems.
  • Excellent sociability in working with both internal and external customers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with building and controlling modules/packs comprised of advanced battery cells preferred.
  • 5+ years' experience of post Ph.D. work.
  • Experience in electric propulsion architecture optimization.
  • Experience in battery system synthesis/analysis.
  • Experience in architecting and building high voltage electric propulsion systems.
