About the position

The Resident Advocate at Hubbard House plays a crucial role in safeguarding the rights and enhancing the well-being of residents at the emergency shelter. This position is dedicated to providing daily support and ensuring the safety of individuals and families who have sought refuge at the shelter, which serves survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, child abuse, and elder abuse. The Resident Advocate is expected to be a compassionate and proactive individual who is passionate about making a significant difference in the lives of victims and their families. The role involves building strong relationships with residents, understanding their needs, and advocating for their rights in a supportive environment. Hubbard House is committed to training its staff to empower them to become effective advocates and change-makers. The organization is looking for candidates who prioritize the needs of clients and possess strong relationship-building skills. The position offers both full-time and part-time opportunities, with various shifts available, including weekdays, weekends, days, and nights. This flexibility allows for a diverse range of candidates to apply, ensuring that the shelter can meet the needs of its residents at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in protecting the rights of residents at the Hubbard House emergency shelter.
  • Promote the well-being of residents and their families living in the shelter.
  • Provide for the daily needs and safety of shelter residents.
  • Build strong relationships with residents to understand and advocate for their needs.
  • Participate in training programs to enhance advocacy skills and knowledge.
  • Maintain a safe and supportive environment for all residents.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED with at least four years of applicable experience, preferably in a certified domestic violence center.
  • Associate's degree or equivalent with at least two years of applicable experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in a human service field with experience in crisis intervention and working with victims of domestic violence preferred.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office (or equivalent) and data entry.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Valid driver's license and dependable transportation required.
  • Must meet eligibility requirements for Hubbard House, Inc. vehicle insurance coverage.
  • Ability to produce proof of eligibility to work in the United States (E-Verify).
  • Successful completion of a level-2 background screening, motor vehicle report, and drug, alcohol, and TB screening.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in sexual assault or domestic violence programs.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.
