About the position

The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for delivering respiratory care to patients through assessment, planning, intervention, education, and evaluation. This role involves performing various respiratory care procedures, monitoring patient responses to therapies, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary care team to ensure effective treatment plans are in place.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Analyze assessment data and create a plan of care for patients.
  • Implement treatment and evaluate the effectiveness of therapies provided.
  • Perform treatments and therapies according to physician orders and explain therapeutic goals to patients.
  • Modify treatment procedures based on patient responses and set up various modes of therapy.
  • Maintain proper documentation and patient medical charting.
  • Provide patient education on cardiopulmonary diseases and treatment options.
  • Instruct patients and caregivers on the use of respiratory therapy equipment and procedures.
  • Set up and maintain respiratory therapy equipment and supplies.
  • Respond to cardio-pulmonary resuscitations and participate as needed.

Requirements

  • Current Respiratory Care License in the state of practice (required).
  • National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) credentialed (required).
  • BLS Basic Life Support certification (required).
  • Graduate of an AMA approved school for Respiratory Care (required).
  • Previous working experience in an ambulatory or acute care setting (preferred).
  • 6 months of Respiratory Therapy experience in a general care area (preferred).

Nice-to-haves

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification (preferred).
  • ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (preferred).
  • PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification (preferred).
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field (preferred).
  • EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training (preferred).
