About the position

The Respiratory Therapy Quality Assurance Specialist at Mount Sinai Medical Center is responsible for ensuring high-quality respiratory care through routine procedures, patient evaluations, and effective communication with healthcare teams. This role emphasizes patient therapy prioritization, quality assurance responsibilities, and education for patients and families, contributing to the overall mission of delivering excellent healthcare.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all routine procedures of the department.
  • Prioritize patient therapy according to patient acuity on a daily basis.
  • Accountable for administration, observation, charting and reporting effects of drugs, oxygen, respiratory treatments and other therapeutic and diagnostic measures.
  • Complete assignments on a timely basis while adapting to changing workloads when required.
  • Maintain standard shift productivity.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of indications, contraindications, hazards and troubleshooting of all treatments as assigned.
  • Demonstrate effective and efficient care through clinical competencies at least annually.
  • Demonstrate competency in drawing and/or running arterial blood gases at least annually.
  • Complete all forms in medical record and departmental records accurately and legibly according to hospital/departmental policy and procedure.
  • Communicate pertinent information at shift report.
  • Fulfill on call responsibilities according to departmental policy.
  • Participate in critical care program as an educator.
  • Monitor ventilation patients according to departmental standards.
  • Demonstrate ability to teach and educate patient and family according to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Use supplies, equipment and resources in a cost effective manner.
  • Ensure appropriate utilization of services by performing Patient Evaluations and communicating with physicians regarding suggested treatment changes.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with Pharmacy to address clinical issues.
  • Review drug override and manage related reporting.
  • Compile blood gas critical value/stat QA report for PI office and bring value outliers to the attention of administration.
  • Compile ventilator days summary for infection control office and bring issues to the attention of administration.
  • Compile ventilator weaning totals for administrative dashboard summary and bring issues to the attention of administration.
  • Work with Education Specialist to cover during absence.
  • Perform all related duties as assigned by Director.

Requirements

  • Florida license for Registered/Certified Respiratory Therapist.
  • BLS Certification.
  • Graduate of an accredited program for Respiratory Care.
  • 1-2 years general floor care experience.
