About the position

The Revenue Tax Claim Specialist position is located in the Finance department at the Erie County Courthouse. This is a full-time role with a starting pay rate of $16.19 per hour, requiring 37.5 hours of work per week. The position is non-exempt and falls under the AFSCME CLERICAL/TECHNICAL bargaining unit. The role involves compiling, tabulating, and posting various receipts, performing clerical duties and data entry, preparing accounting and financial statements, processing payments, and assisting with customer inquiries. Additional responsibilities include providing backup support and performing other related work duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Performs general clerical duties, including computer data entry, waiting on customers at front counter(s), answering telephone and emails, and preparing general correspondences.
  • Aids in problem solving for taxpayers, various government bodies and elected officials, local tax collectors, mortgage and financial companies, and the general public.
  • Provides customer services for both Tax Claim and Revenue front counter(s), phones, etc.
  • Assists with the preparation of various tax sales and other seasonal duties as required.
  • Handles customer questions and prioritizes duties assigned on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
  • Responsible for the accurate handling of all forms of payments, including large sums of cash, checks, and debit/credit cards.
  • Ensures accurate and timely reconciliation of daily transactions and receipts.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Bookkeeping, Accounting, Bank Teller, or Accounts Receivable Experience.
  • Must be able to Type a Minimum of 40 Words Per Minute with Accuracy.
  • Basic Working Knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Nice-to-haves

  • A Bachelor's Degree or Secondary Education in a related field is preferred.
