About the position

The Labor Birth Postpartum Nurse Manager is a pivotal role within the healthcare team, responsible for overseeing the operations and activities of the Labor Birth and Postpartum departments on a 24/7 basis. This position is dedicated to ensuring product excellence, patient satisfaction, and compliance with regulatory standards. The Nurse Manager will engage in planning, managing, and assessing all unit functions, focusing on the evaluation of patient care and outcomes. The role requires a commitment to high-quality patient care, ensuring that all practices align with The Joint Commission standards and other regulatory agency requirements. In this leadership position, the Nurse Manager will facilitate and support high-quality patient outcomes, ensuring that the nursing staff is competent and well-educated. The manager will perform clinical skills within the scope of practice for registered nurses in Florida, ensuring that patient experiences are positive and that satisfaction scores reflect the quality of care provided. The role also involves implementing purposeful hourly rounding, bedside shift reports, and maintaining no-pass zones to enhance patient engagement and safety. The Nurse Manager will be responsible for the financial aspects of unit operations, ensuring that they remain within budgetary expectations and corporate financial goals. This includes preparing staffing plans based on unit census and acuity, monitoring supply inventories, and ensuring that all equipment is safe and operable. Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams is essential to improve access to care and enhance the overall quality of Women's and Children's services. Leadership responsibilities include defining a clear vision for the team, providing motivation and support, leading change initiatives, and fostering an inclusive environment that encourages collaboration. The Nurse Manager will also be involved in recruiting and retaining a diverse and high-performing team, demonstrating fiscal acumen, and contributing to the strategic direction of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and assumes responsibility for 24/7 operations and activities on units.
  • Facilitates and supports high quality patient outcomes; ensures compliance with The Joint Commission and other organizational and regulatory agency standards with quality indicators and core measures.
  • Ensures competence and education of associates.
  • Performs clinical skills within the scope of practice of a registered nurse in the State of Florida for which competencies have been validated.
  • Responsible for patient experience as evidenced by positive patient satisfaction scores.
  • Ensures consistent performance of purposeful hourly or team rounding, bedside shift report and no pass zones.
  • Ensures cost effective unit operations within budgetary expectations and corporate financial goals.
  • Processes requests with justification for additional unit needs outside of established targets to the Department Director.
  • Assures all equipment on the unit is operable and safe.
  • Monitors ordering of unit supplies and equipment with adequate inventory of supplies for unit needs.
  • Prepares and adjusts 24-hour staffing plan based on unit census and acuity on a daily basis.
  • Ensures schedules are completed on time and in compliance with approved staffing plan.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team on ease of accessing care, education, information, and initiatives improving Women's and Children's care.
  • Defines and communicates a clear, compelling vision for the team that effectively ties into the mission and vision of Health First.
  • Provides leadership, motivation, coaching, feedback and support to strengthen growth, development and wellness at work to build and foster effective, high performing teams.
  • Leads change through effective communication, explaining the connection and value to the organization, creating stronger buy-in and urgency, while understanding impact to the team to obtain commitment.

Requirements

  • BSN required; OR, conditional and time limited waiver for BSN requirement may apply to internal associates who complete their BSN within three (3) years of transition to new role; OR external candidates may apply who are currently enrolled in a BSN program to complete within two (2) years of hire.
  • Current, active State of Florida RN license or endorsement.
  • Must hold and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion card upon transfer/start date.
  • AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Provider Completion Card within 90 days of transfer/start and maintain.
  • AHA Neonatal Resuscitation Program Completion Card within 90 days of transfer/start date and maintain.
  • Certification in clinical specialty preferred.
  • At least two (2) years acute care clinical experience.
  • Progressive leadership or previous nursing management experience.
  • Two (2) years of Labor and Delivery clinical experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of TJC (The Joint Commission), Florida Nurse Practice Act and other applicable agency regulations.
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to educate and speak/understand written and verbal communications in the English language.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building along with active listening skills to listen analyze needs from various ages and levels of education.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills with ability to access and interpret data to educate members of the healthcare team.
  • Sound time management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Maintains professional competencies by attending continuing education programs and participating in professional organizations.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to life-threatening/emergent situations.
