About the position

The RN Virtual Care Nurse - PRN at Erlanger Health System is a part-time, temporary position responsible for providing nursing and tele-nursing services in accordance with the state's Nurse Practice Act and Erlanger's Models of Care/Practice. The nurse will engage in patient safety initiatives and must possess a comprehensive understanding of pharmacological drugs, procedures, and equipment necessary for patient care. Effective communication with primary care nurses, staff physicians, and other departments is essential for coordinating and delivering virtual care across multiple telehealth service lines. The role requires the nurse to utilize their clinical experience to manage telehealth consult requests, triaging them to the appropriate clinical department while ensuring audio-video connectivity is maintained. This includes both on-demand and scheduled services, necessitating strong critical thinking and organizational skills. The nurse is expected to uphold professionalism through courteous actions, confidentiality, and appropriate self-presentation, while demonstrating excellent oral and written communication skills suitable for the patient demographic being served.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe and effective patient care using evidence-based best practices.
  • Maintain a safe therapeutic environment by complying with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Perform and document comprehensive assessments and respond to abnormal diagnostic data.
  • Anticipate potential emergency situations and intervene appropriately.
  • Document care accurately and concisely, adhering to regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Provide culturally competent care to patients and families.
  • Utilize time management skills to meet punctuality and attendance expectations.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Implement care plans and identify resources to meet patient needs.
  • Identify and communicate changes in patient conditions that may impact staffing levels.
  • Contribute to a healthy work environment by exhibiting professional behaviors.
  • Complete mandatory education and competencies as required by the unit.

Requirements

  • Current license to practice in the State of Tennessee.
  • BLS certification completed prior to unit assignment and maintained thereafter.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in acute care nursing.
  • Knowledge of general nursing principles and practice skills.
  • Familiarity with organizational functions, policies, and regulations.
  • General knowledge of Zoom and/or other audio-video technologies for telehealth visits.
