About the position

The Quarry Lane School has been widely recognized for excellence at the regional, national, and international levels of robotics with Vex and the First organization. As a part of the team, you will be directly contributing to that continual success. The Quarry Lane School invests heavily in its team members and provides ample resources, sustained support, and access to professional quality equipment. Our shop boasts nearly every conceivable piece of equipment necessary to fabricate and assemble just about anything imaginable, including a stocked wood shop, multiple laser cutters, multiple 3D printers, and multiple CNC mills. The ideal candidate should be able to work well collaboratively with others, believe in the goals and mission of The Quarry Lane School and FIRST Robotics, and be open-minded and willing to learn. Prior experience with robotics, any CAD software, programming, or rapid prototyping equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutters, and CNC machines is required. Applicants should be comfortable working and supervising an active shop environment. We are looking for a passionate educator who is excited to work with some of the most talented, compassionate, and driven 6th-12th grade students the Bay has to offer. Applicants should be comfortable working and supervising an active shop environment. QLS robotics educators are expected to be very hands-on in their work while also helping to maintain the high safety standards of our fabrication lab. Work hours are Monday through Fridays, as well as commitments on some weekends to attend FIRST robotics tournaments and other FIRST robotics-related events.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the robotics team at The Quarry Lane School.
  • Supervise and maintain a safe and productive shop environment.
  • Collaborate with students and staff to achieve the goals of the robotics program.
  • Prepare students for participation in FIRST robotics tournaments and events.
  • Manage the use of various fabrication and prototyping equipment, including 3D printers and CNC machines.
  • Provide hands-on instruction and support to students in robotics and engineering projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • At least two years' experience working with middle school and high school-aged students in a classroom environment.
  • Prior experience with robotics, CAD software, programming, or rapid prototyping equipment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain high safety standards in a fabrication lab.
  • Passion for engineering, STEAM, and robotics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with FIRST Robotics programs.
  • Familiarity with educational technology and teaching methods in engineering.
