About the position

The Optometric Technician at Rosin Eyecare plays a crucial role in ensuring that patients receive high-quality optometric care during their eye exams. This position focuses on providing an exceptional patient experience by effectively linking the doctor with primary care functions, managing patient records, and supporting patient flow throughout the examination process. The technician is responsible for performing various tests, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with practice standards while adapting to different examination scenarios.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with patient care and eye exams, managing patient records and supporting patient flow.
  • Performs various tests to aid the optometrist with vision examinations, including visual acuity measurements and retinal imaging.
  • Conducts tests for accurate diagnosis and treatment within appropriate time frames.
  • Reviews prescriptions and patient information carefully, consulting with Optometrists or Practice Manager when necessary.
  • Identifies and resolves situations involving dissatisfied patients promptly.
  • Handles and files all patient records in an organized manner in accordance with HIPAA standards.
  • Supports contact lens exams and orders, including care and trial inventory.
  • Utilizes appointment scheduling procedures and operates computer systems effectively.
  • Operates the point-of-sale system, inputting patient information accurately and creating sales transactions as required.
  • Maintains a safe working environment for team members and patients.
  • Supports compliance with visual merchandising in exam lanes and contact lens areas.
  • Adapts to various examination scenarios and engages positively with patients and staff.
  • Performs all pre-examination testing accurately and explains measurements to patients.
  • Responsible for maintenance and disinfection of equipment, providing clinical support to the Optometrist as needed.
  • Works weekends and evenings as required by business needs.
  • Adheres to attendance and daily timekeeping requirements, as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Maintains proper dress code and performs other functions as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • 2+ years' experience in optometry, ophthalmology, or healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of optical and medical terminology.
  • Understanding and utilization of optical equipment and diagnostic testing.
  • Coaching skills and strong communication abilities.
  • Problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to assess priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work autonomously and knowledge of office environment.
  • Strong basic math skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in healthcare settings.
  • Previous experience in customer service, retail, or optical environments.
  • Optometric technician certification.
