About the position
The Day Care Aide position at Roy High School within the Weber School District is a part-time role dedicated to supervising and nurturing children aged 2 to 5 years. This position requires a commitment of 5.50 hours per day for 9 months of the year. The Day Care Aide will be responsible for creating a safe and engaging environment for young children, ensuring their well-being and development through various activities and interactions. The role involves welcoming children each day, providing them with snacks and meals, and facilitating crafts and activities that promote learning and socialization. Additionally, the Aide will work closely with high school students, teaching them hands-on skills related to childcare and early childhood education. The Day Care Aide will play a crucial role in monitoring the safety of children, helping them maintain good hygiene, and organizing activities that encourage exploration and learning. This includes developing age-appropriate learning experiences that teach basic skills such as communication, sharing, and manners. The Aide will also be responsible for maintaining a safe workplace by observing children for any health, behavioral, or emotional issues and reporting concerns to staff and parents. Keeping accurate records related to child care is also a key responsibility of this position, ensuring that all necessary documentation is maintained. Overall, this position is vital in providing a nurturing environment where children can thrive and learn, while also offering high school students valuable experience in a childcare setting.
Responsibilities
- Nurturing and caring for young children.
- Supervising and monitoring the safety of children.
- Preparing and organizing meals and snacks for the children.
- Helping children maintain good hygiene.
- Organizing activities that allow children to learn about the world and explore their interests.
- Developing and encouraging age-appropriate learning and socialization to ensure children learn basic skills and concepts, such as communication, manners, sharing, etc.
- Maintaining a safe workplace by monitoring children for health, behavioral, and emotional issues and reporting concerns to staff and parents.
- Ensuring children are learning positive behaviors and providing guidance or approved discipline, as needed.
- Keeping records relating to child care.
- Providing a safe space where high-schoolers can work/experience what it is like to work in a childcare/preschool setting.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Job related experience is required.
- Valid driver's license.
- Minimum age: 18.
- Current Food Handlers Permit.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Additional licenses, certification and training are beneficial.
- Ability to make decisions, have patience and stamina to chase after, lift or carry children.
- Record of immunization and ability to pass a background check.
- Exceptional communication, teaching and interpersonal skills.
- Strong understanding of stages of childhood development.
- Attentiveness to the needs and safety of children.
Nice-to-haves
- Additional Education and experience is preferred.
- Experience working with children in a daycare or educational setting.
