About the position

The Royalty Reporting Accountant will be responsible for preparing upstream royalty statements and reporting and accurately recording related accruals and expenses in the general ledger. This role will collaborate closely with Royalty Accountants and internal partners to ensure the accuracy and completeness of royalty statements and reporting. Additionally, the position will provide support to the Royalty Accounting team, assisting with ad-hoc projects and responding to various requests as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Compile and submit upstream royalty statements to the parent company, and other internal and external partners as needed, ensuring accuracy and compliance
  • Partner with the Data and Analytics team to optimize and streamline reporting processes
  • Collaborate with legal and tax teams to ensure compliance with upstream reporting requirements
  • Reconcile royalties paid to licensee accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance with upstream reporting requirements
  • Address inquiries from the The Pokémon Company (parent company) and ensure clear, consistent communication
  • Maintain a high level of attention to detail to ensure accuracy in reporting, reconciliation, and communication
  • Assist with month-end close, assist with licensee audit program, assist with development of standards, processes, and procedures
  • Review licensing contract details to ensure accuracy
  • Prepare licensing and royalty data for reporting out to internal business partners
  • Ability to travel domestically or internationally once a year

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related degree or equivalent working experience
  • 5 - 7 years of GL or AR accounting experience, preferably 2 years of royalty accounting experience
  • 5 - 7 years of reconciliations and researching of reconciliation differences
  • Intermediate Excel abilities: subtotal, sort, filter, if statements, vlookups, etc.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and exercise professional judgment
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy required
  • Ability to retain and recall details of contracts and statements, while also handling many exceptions
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work
  • Ability to work in an environment where processes and procedures are changing
  • Ability to follow through on resolution of issues over multiple months of time
  • Focus on continuous improvement and increasing efficiency
  • Excellent communication skills with confidence communicating via email with people where English may not be their primary language
  • Ability to maintain a professional but assertive relationship while pursuing licensees and internal associates in order to resolve issues

  • Experience with contracts, licensing and royalties, participations, foreign currency gain/loss, ERP and royalty management systems
  • Variance analysis and budget and planning experience is also a plus
