About the position

The Safety Director at Brackenbox Inc. is responsible for ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and promoting a culture of safety within the organization. This role involves developing, implementing, and overseeing safety programs to eliminate workplace hazards, documenting accidents, investigating incidents, and providing training to employees on safe work practices.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of various company yards/locations and job sites to monitor safety practices, respond to incidents, identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Act as a resource for employees about how to uphold regulatory safety standards and complete tasks while limiting the risk of bodily injury.
  • Confirm that employees have the appropriate certifications to operate heavy machinery and set standards for testing and maintenance to prevent dangerous malfunctions.
  • Conduct Tool Box Talks, maintain Safety Manual and create informational materials to post around the workplace.
  • Advise the company's administrative team on safety issues and compliance in specific projects and operations.
  • Handle administrative aspects of workplace safety such as applying for permits, and purchasing/distribution of safety equipment.
  • Provide training and resources to employees on safe work practices, emergency response procedures, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Conduct onboarding for new hires to safety-sensitive positions.
  • Investigate accidents or incidents to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Manage the on-board camera system to track accidents and analyze various safety metrics and provide corrective action of unsafe behaviors and practices.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, regulations, and best practices related to occupational health and safety.
  • Build strong relationships with regulatory agencies, contractors, and employees to foster a culture of safety throughout the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field is preferred, and/or have equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a safety role in the area of Construction and/or Fleet operations.
  • In-depth knowledge of Safety regulatory laws and standards, specifically understanding OSHA 1910 & 1926, DOT, FMCSA, EPA, MSHA FRA.
  • Demonstrated leadership and coaching abilities.
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team demonstrating excellent time management skills.
  • Knowledge of procedures and guidelines for emergency situations.
  • Great attention to detail, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts in simple terms.
  • Outstanding organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively train employees at all levels.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail for conducting thorough investigations and audits.
