We offer career opportunities where you can contribute and grow. Our Sales and Marketing department is currently looking for a property and casualty field territory underwriter. This field-based role is critical in evaluating, assessing, and pricing risks while leading profitable growth for our agency partners in your territory, specifically in Boston, Massachusetts. Positions serving territories away from our headquarters in Fairfield, Ohio are fully remote. The starting pay for this position ranges from $108,000 to $182,400 annually, with a competitive compensation package based on the applicant's education, experience, location, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Eligible associates may also receive an annual cash bonus and stock incentives based on company and individual performance. As a field territory underwriter, you will be responsible for underwriting by analyzing risks, pricing, negotiating, and making informed decisions on commercial business. You will also be involved in selling and soliciting business across all available business units within the territory to build strong, diverse agency relationships. Additionally, you will lead the territory in strategic plan development, ownership, and execution of enterprise-wide growth and profit within the territory, including new agency appointments. Building deep relationships with assigned agencies is essential to deliver on our vision of being the best company serving independent agents. You will provide leadership by partnering with and leading other field disciplines within designated agency relationships to ensure their success through communication, support, and collaboration with team members. Staying updated on industry trends, market conditions, emerging risks, and primary competitors is also a key part of your role, allowing you to make informed decisions based on this information.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze risks, price, negotiate, and make informed decisions on commercial business as part of the underwriting process.
  • Sell and solicit business across all available business units within the territory to build strong, diverse agency relationships.
  • Lead the territory in strategic plan development, ownership, and execution of enterprise-wide growth and profit, including new agency appointments.
  • Build deep relationships with assigned agencies to develop a diverse and profitable portfolio.
  • Provide leadership by partnering with and leading other field disciplines within designated agency relationships to ensure their success.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, emerging risks, and primary competitors to make informed decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of commercial underwriting experience; more than 3 years preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
  • Willingness to travel and visit agencies within the territory regularly.
  • Strategic business plan development skills.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant insurance industry certifications (e.g., Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) or Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU)).
  • Experience in professional selling.
