About the position

The SATCOM Field Service Engineer position at Serco in Pearl Harbor, HI, offers a unique opportunity to contribute to high-profile projects that support the US Navy. This role is pivotal in providing On the Job Training (OJT) instruction on SATCOM operations, maintenance, and repair of various systems. The engineer will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for systems such as the AN/WSC-9(V) NMT, GBS, C-12509 TDMA TIP, and SHF Communication Systems, among others. The position requires a high degree of creativity and latitude, allowing the engineer to leverage their expertise and collaborative skills to enhance military defense and ensure the safety of sailors. In this role, the engineer will be responsible for developing, planning, coordinating, and conducting System Operational Verification Testing (SOVT). They will also report design, reliability, and maintenance issues to program management, support new system installations, integrations, and upgrades, and establish testing protocols and standards. The engineer will be expected to provide training and guidance to other engineers and technicians, test system interoperability, troubleshoot issues, and maintain detailed evaluation and repair reports. Additionally, the engineer will lead tasks, including planning, execution, staff oversight, and status reporting for significant initiatives, while also directing the work of others.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert for AN/WSC-9(V) NMT and other SATCOM systems.
  • Provide On the Job Training instruction on SATCOM operations, maintenance, and repair.
  • Develop, plan, coordinate, and conduct System Operational Verification Testing (SOVT).
  • Report design, reliability, and maintenance problems to program management.
  • Support new system installations, integrations, and upgrades.
  • Install, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair products/equipment.
  • Establish testing protocols and standards, providing training and guidance to engineers and technicians.
  • Test interoperability of systems, measure transmission/outputs, troubleshoot and resolve issues, and maintain detailed evaluation and repair reports.
  • Provide innovative solutions to complex functional problems that impact function's success.
  • Lead tasks, including planning, execution, staff oversight, and status reporting for significant initiatives.
  • Lead and direct the work of others.

Requirements

  • Active Secret clearance.
  • US Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a CAC (Common Access Card).
  • Ability to successfully pass a drug/background screening.
  • Bachelor's Degree or High School Diploma/GED with 4 additional years of experience in the field.
  • 5 years of experience in SATCOM systems.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and repair SATCOM systems individually and in team situations.
  • Ability to assess and respond to situations where standard procedures have failed in isolating or fixing problem equipment.
  • Ability to promptly respond to telephone and email requests for technical support.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% as necessary.

Nice-to-haves

  • Active Top Secret Clearance.
  • Trade school or military training in industrial engineering, electronics technology, information systems, computer science, or other related technical field.
  • Navy SATCOM troubleshooting and/or customer service experience providing technical support to engineers in areas of research, design, development, testing, or manufacturing process improvement.
  • Experience with satellite communication (SATCOM) systems operations, maintenance, and repair in shipboard, submarine, and shore-based environments.
