About the position

The School Counselor at Floyd Central New Albany-Floyd Co Con Sch is responsible for providing guidance and support to students in their educational and personal development. This role involves assessing students' needs, facilitating educational planning, and addressing social and emotional challenges. The counselor acts as a liaison between students and various educational and social services, ensuring that students receive the necessary support to succeed academically and personally.

Responsibilities

  • Collects, organizes, and analyzes information about students through records, tests, interviews, and professional sources to appraise their interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personality characteristics for educational planning.
  • Compiles and studies educational and economic information to aid students in making and carrying out educational objectives.
  • Refers students to social service agencies, special programs, or placement services.
  • Assists students to understand and overcome social and emotional problems.
  • Engages in research and follow-up activities to evaluate counseling techniques.
  • Develops and maintains a system for student registration and/or orientation.
  • Monitors collection and distribution of grades.
  • Utilizes, evaluates, and oversees the maintenance of an accurate cumulative record file for each student.
  • Acts as a liaison between Prosser and sending schools.
  • Oversees the preparations and administration of prerequisite proficiency exams (Knowledge Assessment/Accuplacer).
  • Coordinates dual credits from partner colleges.
  • Follows and is knowledgeable on school system policy on suicidal ideation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the administration and/or other designee.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in School Counseling.
  • Indiana Professional Standards Board certification in School Counseling.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Working knowledge of computers and their capabilities.
