About The Position

The School Counselor plays a vital role in supporting students' personal, social, educational, and vocational development. This position involves establishing a comprehensive school counseling program, providing individual and group counseling, consulting with various stakeholders, coordinating counseling services, and interpreting student data to assist in educational placements. The counselor is also responsible for adhering to ethical standards and engaging in professional development.

Requirements

• Master's degree in school counseling or related field.
• Enrollment in an accredited school counselor preparation program with completion of a minimum of 24 graduate semester hours, or completion of a master's degree in a related field with enrollment in a school counselor preparation program.
• Licensure by the State of North Carolina Department of Public Instruction in counseling or ability to obtain licensure.

• Ability to use common office machines and computer software for word processing and data management.

Responsibilities

• Establish the school-counseling program and develop activities and resources to implement and evaluate it.
• Provide individual and group counseling services to meet the developmental, preventive, and remedial needs of students.
• Consult with students, parents, teachers, and other personnel to assist in meeting the needs of students.
• Coordinate all counseling services for students and assist with the implementation of student services in the school.
• Accurately interpret test results and assist teachers with educational placement using appropriate assessment strategies.
• Adhere to ethical standards of the counseling profession and participate in professional associations for skill enhancement.
