About the position

We are looking for a Resource Counseling Assistant who will work under the general direction of an assigned supervisor. In this role, you will be responsible for counseling students facing social or emotional challenges, ensuring they have access to high-quality learning options and various activities to help them achieve their personal best. You will collaborate with teachers and counselors to provide cultural expertise during counseling sessions, and work closely with administrative and site personnel to facilitate activities related to Parent Education and Parent Involvement. Additionally, you will provide professional translations for students, families, and school personnel to ensure clear comprehension of important information. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting students and families in resolving health, behavioral, attendance, and other issues that may hinder students from achieving educational excellence. You will promote and encourage students' educational and vocational plans, implementing practices that have been proven to enhance student achievement. Furthermore, you will conduct in-service training for school staff on cultural awareness to foster a better understanding of the diverse needs of students and families. Home visits will be a part of your duties, where you will assist in home/school communication by providing translations in both oral and written forms. This will help establish collaborative relationships with families and encourage students to learn at or above grade level. You will also facilitate small group sessions with students to address social, emotional, and educational challenges under the supervision of a certificated professional. Administrative tasks such as filing, copying, record keeping, and preparing routine reports will also be part of your responsibilities, along with operating various office equipment including copiers, typewriters, fax machines, and computers with assigned software.

Responsibilities

  • Perform clerical duties including filing, copying, record keeping, and preparation of routine reports.
  • Operate a variety of office equipment including copiers, typewriters, fax machines, and computers.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Some work experience in dealing with special needs and problems of students in an educational setting.
  • Valid California driver's license.
  • Must pass the School District's language tests to demonstrate proficiency in English and a designated second or third language if hired.

Nice-to-haves

  • Some college courses in child development or counseling desirable.
