About the position

The American Chemical Society (ACS) is on the lookout for a dynamic Science Communicator & Social Media Specialist who will play a pivotal role in enhancing audience growth and engagement across its flagship social media channels. This position is designed for a high-performing science storyteller who possesses a robust background in science and a fervent passion for science communication. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving the creation of engaging, scientifically accurate content that resonates with the chemistry community. This fast-paced role requires accountability for performance targets and offers a competitive base salary along with bonus potential. In this role, you will apply your knowledge of scientific topics that are of interest to the chemistry community to develop impactful content. You will take ownership of the audience function on social media, staying attuned to the topics and events that engage our audience. A key responsibility will be to create and maintain a comprehensive calendar for social media, ensuring the timely and relevant publication of content and campaigns. You will proactively collaborate with partners to create effective content and campaigns that resonate with our social media audiences. Additionally, you will set up listening stations to monitor social media trends and audience engagement, creating a feedback loop that informs and adapts content strategies quickly and effectively. Advising and supporting partners in producing clean, creative copy that aligns with the ACS brand will also be part of your duties. You will set and achieve performance targets that support the organization's audience strategy, providing regular and timely reporting and insights. As a champion of social media as an engagement tool, you will coach and advise staff on how to engage effectively and professionally.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with partners to create effective content and campaigns for social media audiences.

Requirements

  • A college degree in chemistry or a closely related scientific field is required.
  • 5+ years of experience in social media channel management in a marketing, journalism, or communications environment.
  • Demonstrated success in running social media campaigns (paid and/or organic) on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and X.
  • Experience using data and metrics to drive improvements and report on outcomes.
  • Ability to work effectively in a busy environment, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Self-starter with strong collaboration skills to work across the organization to achieve business goals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
