About The Position

Vaxcyte is seeking an energetic and talented individual to join the Polysaccharide Analytical Development team. The primary responsibility of this role is to provide assay automation using automated and high-throughput instruments, develop methods, and support routine assays for ongoing developmental activities. The position emphasizes the importance of quality, compliance, and collaboration within a team environment to advance the company's mission of innovating vaccines to protect humankind from bacterial diseases.

Requirements

  • PhD in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field with 3+ years relevant industry experience; MS with 8+ years of industry experience; or BS with 12+ years of industry experience in Pharma/Biotech industry required.
  • Recent experience in assay automation with automated and high-throughput instruments such as Tecan liquid handlers.
  • Experience in chemical/biological/immunological assays such as plate-based spectrometric methodology, and ELISA/MSD.
  • Background in analytical chemistry principles and hands-on experience with modern analytical instrumentation used in drug candidate analysis and characterization.
  • Familiarity with analytical method development/qualification concepts.
  • Attention to detail and excellent skills in record keeping/documentation.
  • Strong critical thinking and data analysis skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with effective verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to work under supervision in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment and collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Eagerness and ability to learn and understand new concepts easily.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in carbohydrate analysis, such as HPAEC-PAD, colorimetric methods, HPLC, SEC-MALS, and LC-MS.

Responsibilities

  • Independently design, execute, and interpret routine in-house assays to analyze and characterize polysaccharide intermediates and in-process samples.
  • Perform microplate assays, including colorimetric and enzyme-based assays.
  • Ensure overall quality and compliance of all testing.
  • Conduct routine instrument maintenance and troubleshooting for HPLC, SEC-MAL, GCMS, and HPEAC-PAD.
  • Troubleshoot issues during analytical method development.
  • Complete assigned tasks and report data promptly and in high quality.
  • Provide technical direction, mentorship, and coaching to junior scientists.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of experiments in laboratory notebooks and Benchling entries.
  • Summarize data and communicate findings to cross-functional teams in a timely manner.
  • Support daily lab operations and team objectives.
