About the position
Siena Farms is seeking motivated individuals for the seasonal Field Crew position for the 2024 season. This role is ideal for those with a career interest in sustainable agriculture and requires at least one season of previous farming experience. Field Crew members will engage in various daily farm operations, including production, harvest, and post-harvest handling. The position emphasizes teamwork and a commitment to quality and efficiency, while also providing opportunities for personal and professional growth in the field of agriculture. Field Crew members will take on key roles in specific projects and tasks, assisting in training seasonal staff in various harvest and production systems. They will work closely with harvest and production managers, often serving as crew leaders. This full-time, seasonal position has a flexible start date during Summer 2024 and will conclude on November 26, 2024, coinciding with Thanksgiving week. The responsibilities of the Field Crew include crop production tasks such as planting, cultivation, and involvement in specialty crop production. They will also be responsible for daily harvest activities, post-harvest handling, and preparing orders for restaurant deliveries and retail stores. Additionally, Field Crew members will participate in farm outreach events and support networking opportunities for continued farming after the season ends. High standards for organization, communication, and respect for coworkers are essential in this role, with a strong emphasis on kindness and professionalism.
Responsibilities
- Participate in crop production including planting, cultivation, and specialty crop production.
- Assist in daily harvest of over 150 varieties of vegetables, herbs, mushrooms, and flowers.
- Handle post-harvest tasks such as washing, curing, packing, and transporting produce.
- Prepare and pack orders for restaurant deliveries and retail stores.
- Prepare and pack CSA Farm Shares for pickup and distribution.
- Participate in farm outreach events such as CSA member farm-tours and volunteer days.
- Support in training and leading seasonal staff in various field work tasks.
- Engage in group field walks with farm managers to learn from the fields and crops.
- Assist in developing opportunities for continued farming after the season ends.
Requirements
- One or more seasons of previous farming experience required.
