About the position

Insight Global is seeking a Linux Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join a client in San Diego, California, specifically at Camp Pendleton. This role is crucial for supporting the operational testing, development, and integration of Navy and Marine Corps Live Virtual Constructive (LVC) training systems. The primary objective is to ensure that these systems are compatible, interoperable, and effectively meet the training needs of the Fleet. The ideal candidate will play a significant role in planning training events and integrating various systems to enhance training effectiveness. The position requires a flexible approach, as the duties and responsibilities may evolve to align with business, customer, and contractual requirements. The Linux SME will provide subject matter expertise on Joint Live Virtual Constructive (JLVC) federate simulations and tools, ensuring that they meet specified training objectives. This includes conducting training sessions for BSC staff and end users, covering installation procedures, initialization, user roles, and participation in training events. Additionally, the SME will be responsible for managing local simulation artifacts for each JLVC federate, ensuring their alignment with Marine Corps Training and Education Command (TECOM) standards. The role also involves supporting the continuous refinement of enterprise documentation regarding JLVC capabilities and best practices for implementation in various LVC training constructs. Furthermore, the Linux SME will assist the Linux Administrator in federating instances of JLVC simulations and tools to achieve training objectives effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Provide subject matter expertise on the capabilities of Joint Live Virtual Constructive (JLVC) federate simulations and tools in JLVC catalog to meet specified training objectives.
  • Provide training to BSC staff and end users to facilitate effective employment of JLVC federate simulations and tools, including installation procedures, initialization, user roles, and participation in training events.
  • Conduct continuing education activities to ensure awareness of emerging JLVC capabilities and enhance understanding of effective employment of JLVC simulations and tools.
  • Initialize and employ instances of JLVC federate simulations to meet training objectives.
  • Manage the local simulation artifacts for each of the JLVC federates and ensure their alignment with Marine Corps Training and Education Command (TECOM)-provided versions.
  • Support the continuous refinement of enterprise documentation regarding JLVC federates capabilities and best practices for their implementation in support of different LVC training constructs.
  • Support the Linux Admin in federating instances of JLVC simulations and tools to meet training objectives.

Requirements

  • 9 years relevant experience with a Bachelor's in a related field, or 7 years relevant experience with a Master's in a related field, or 4 years relevant experience with a PhD or Juris Doctorate in a related field, or a High School Diploma or equivalent and 13 years relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with Linux (command line) and Windows operating systems.
  • Technical leadership ability to address technical issues during LVC training event execution and assign engineers from appropriate domains to resolve issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable communicating at various levels of the organization.
  • Familiarity with MS Office.
  • A current CompTIA Security + certification.
  • Active Secret Clearance.
  • Knowledge of distributed simulation protocols such as High Level Architecture (HLA) and Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS).
  • Familiarity with networking concepts, architectures, and protocols such as TCP/IP and UDP.
  • Experience with MS Visio software to produce technical architecture drawings.
  • Knowledge of Navy C4I tactical systems such as Link 16 and GCCS.
  • Experience working with Navy systems and/or commands.
