About the position

Exelon is at the forefront of the energy transformation, and we are seeking a Section Engineer to join our team in Mays Landing, New Jersey. This role is pivotal in developing and leading teams of employees or contractors in various engineering studies, plans, specifications, and evaluations related to the testing, commissioning, planning, design, licensing, construction, operation, and maintenance of Exelon's electric generation, transmission, distribution, gas, telecommunication, and communication facilities/systems. As a Section Engineer, you will provide expert consultation and recommendations based on thorough studies of company or customer-owned systems, processes, equipment, or facilities. You will act as a recognized technical authority in specialized engineering areas, which may include witnessing Factory Acceptance Tests. This position may require extended hours during storms or energy delivery emergencies, emphasizing the need for flexibility and commitment to safety and service. In this role, you will lead highly technical consultations and training, which may include on-the-job training (OJT) and classroom instruction, focusing on complex technical areas that require advanced engineering principles. You will evaluate intricate technical issues and recommend actions or programs for their resolution, often necessitating the review of engineering design documents. Additionally, you will lead project teams in implementing large specialized technical projects and develop studies and commissioning plans to support the safe energizing of major utility and customer systems and equipment. Your participation in technical and industry societies will enhance your knowledge of new technologies and issues relevant to the company. The Section Engineer will have a significant influence on strategic management decisions that impact the company. You will support and lead employees and contractors in executing plans to energize utility or customer equipment/systems and set the direction for the organization regarding technical issues. Your technical expertise will be crucial in promoting a safe work environment and enhancing customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and leads teams in engineering studies, plans, specifications, and evaluations.
  • Provides consultation and recommendations based on studies of systems, processes, and equipment.
  • Acts as a recognized technical authority in specialized engineering areas.
  • Leads technical consultation and training through OJT/OJE and classroom instruction.
  • Evaluates complex technical issues and recommends actions for resolution.
  • Leads project teams in implementing specialized technical projects and programs.
  • Participates in technical and industry societies to enhance knowledge of new technologies.
  • Monitors performance for the accomplishment of committed results.
  • Acts as an expert witness and provides expert opinions for internal committees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering discipline with at least 7 years of professional engineering experience.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply problem-solving approaches and engineering theory.
  • Knowledge of engineering designs, principles, and practices.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of latest technologies necessary for specialized assignments.
