About the position
Dover Food Retail (DFR) is seeking a dedicated Security Guard to join our team in Sylmar, California. As a leading manufacturer in the refrigeration and food equipment industry, DFR is committed to ensuring the safety and security of our premises, employees, and visitors. The Security Guard will play a crucial role in maintaining a secure environment by observing, reporting, and providing service across all departments. This position requires a valid California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services license and a strong sense of responsibility to help our customers and employees feel safe and secure. The Security Guard will be responsible for patrolling the property on foot or in a vehicle, deterring trespassing, and observing suspicious activities. The role demands the ability to multi-task and work independently while using various security systems and tools, including the Bosch Operator Client DVR system and Microsoft Office programs. The Security Guard will respond to alarms, inspect equipment, enforce parking policies, and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures. Additionally, the position involves conducting regular audits of secured areas and maintaining the organization's stability by adhering to legal requirements and uniform standards. In emergency situations, the Security Guard will be expected to perform first aid or CPR, transport injured individuals to the clinic, and contact emergency services as needed. The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, is essential, as the Security Guard will need to document incidents and provide instructions to employees. This role requires a proactive approach to security, with a focus on identifying and reporting aggressive behavior and ensuring the safety of all individuals on the premises.
Responsibilities
- Patrol property on foot or in a vehicle to secure premises and personnel.
- Deter trespassing and observe suspicious activities.
- Use Bosch Operator Client DVR system and Microsoft Office programs for documentation.
- Respond to and identify alarms for fire, burglar, HVAC, and generator systems.
- Inspect and report manufacturing or HVAC equipment in alarm for correction or shutdown.
- Report irregularities in building security measures and inform violators of company policies.
- Enforce parking policies and assignments for employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Follow post instructions and security policies, obtaining necessary signatures and receipts.
- Conduct foot and vehicle patrols to audit secured areas frequently.
- Comply with legal requirements, company guidelines, and uniform standards to maintain stability and reputation.
- Monitor and control access at building entrances, common areas, and vehicle gates.
- Perform first aid or CPR and contact emergency services when necessary.
- Identify visitors and contractors, ensuring appropriate documentation is provided.
- Direct employees and visitors during emergencies to ensure safety.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or general education degree.
- Minimum of 2 years of documented security experience, preferably in the manufacturing industry.
- Current and valid guard card/license as per the California Bureau of Security & Investigative Services.
- CPR and AED training is desired; valid and active Class C Driver's License is required.
- Proficient in using Bosch Operator Client DVR system, Windows computer programs, and Microsoft Office programs.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing concisely, with incident report writing skills.
- Spanish speaking is a plus.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in military or law enforcement is desired.
- Knowledgeable use of smart mobile devices and mobile phone applications for data entry and processing.
- Forklift driving experience when needed.
