Responsibilities

  • Research, outline, write, and edit technical content, including policies, procedures, process documentation, technical specifications, FAQs, how-to guides, and user manuals.
  • Gather information from subject-matter experts (SMEs), security engineers, and analysts to create accurate and user-friendly documentation.
  • Develop content that is accessible to both technical and non-technical audiences, ensuring consistent messaging and adherence to organizational style guides.
  • Work closely with IT security and development teams to understand documentation requirements and ensure all documentation aligns with security standards.
  • Collaborate with development and support leads to identify documentation repositories, revise existing content, and determine the best solutions for data storage and retrieval.
  • Serve as a liaison between security, IT, and business units to ensure comprehensive documentation coverage.
  • Develop and maintain information architecture templates that support easy data migration and compliance with legal and organizational standards.
  • Create and manage a central documentation repository, ensuring the accuracy and accessibility of all content.
  • Develop content in alternative media forms, such as video tutorials and infographics, to maximize usability and engagement.
  • Regularly review and update existing documentation to reflect changes in security protocols, technologies, and best practices.
  • Test and verify documentation accuracy, ensuring that it remains relevant and up-to-date.
  • Collect and analyze user feedback to identify areas for improvement in documentation quality and usability.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship on best practices for writing and maintaining technical documentation.
  • Create and manage user assistance infrastructure, including how-to sections, FAQs, and Help sections, to improve user experience.
  • Develop scripts for video tutorials and other training materials to support user education efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Writing, Journalism, Communications, Curriculum Development, or Software/Computer Engineering.
  • 2+ years of experience as a technical writer, with a demonstrated ability to write clear and concise documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to write clear, user-friendly content for highly technical subjects.
  • Strong understanding of information security topics and the ability to translate technical information for general audiences.
  • Experience in writing and editing documentation for policies, procedures, and technical standards.
  • Knowledge of user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) principles and how to apply them to technical writing.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects while maintaining meticulous attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with API documentation and the ability to analyze and improve user-facing content using data-driven insights.
  • Ability to effectively use analytics to improve user-facing content and applicant programming interface (API).

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in technical writing or a related field.
  • Experience in teaching, grant writing, or scientific publishing.
  • Certification from the Society of Technical Writers or similar professional organization.
  • Understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and previous experience in software development.
  • Experience using XML tools to create and maintain documentation.
