About the position

As the Senior Analyst, Business Intelligence at XPO, you will play a pivotal role in identifying, leading, and delivering efforts to build reports, visualizations, and dashboards using business intelligence (BI) tools and practices. This position is designed for individuals who are solutions-driven and possess a strong analytical mindset. You will be responsible for creating business intelligence solutions by studying informational needs, conferring with users, and analyzing system flows, data usage, and work processes. Your work will involve investigating problem areas and following the development life cycle while ensuring compliance with design and development standards. In this role, you will engage with stakeholders across the organization to align priorities, communicate solution design trade-offs and recommendations, and build and execute development plans. You will also design user interfaces, tool screens, and end-user workflows to maximize the understandability of information and ease of use, ensuring alignment with the company’s aesthetic and usability standards. Continuous improvement will be a key focus, as you will work to enhance technical design patterns, workflows, and tools, defining and enforcing standards to maintain the platform's effectiveness and sustainability. You will have the opportunity to experiment with and promote the adoption of new tools and approaches when appropriate. Mentorship is an important aspect of this position, as you will be expected to mentor other team members and partners on technical skills, best practices, and problem-solving approaches. This can be done both formally in structured group settings and informally in one-on-one and small group sessions. You will proactively share technical approaches and best practices among other developers and communicate success stories to broader audiences across the company. Additionally, you will support end users to ensure they have reliable access to and understanding of the data they need to perform their jobs effectively. Collaboration with Data Engineering teams will be essential to help implement Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes and ensure that data warehouse processes are followed.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, lead and deliver efforts to build reports, visualizations and dashboards using BI tools and practices.
  • Create business intelligence solutions by studying informational needs, conferring with users, studying system flows, data usage and work processes, investigating problem areas, and following the development life cycle; comply with design and development standards.
  • Engage with stakeholders across the organization to align priorities, communicate solution design trade-offs and recommendations, and build and execute development plans.
  • Design user interfaces, tool screens and end-user workflows to maximize understandability of information, ease of use and alignment with the company aesthetic and usability standards.
  • Continuously improve technical design patterns, workflows and tools, defining and enforcing standards when necessary to maintain the platform's effectiveness and sustainability; experiment with and promote adoption of new tools and approaches when appropriate.
  • Mentor other team members and partners on technical skills, best practices, problem-solving approaches and standard patterns, both formally in structured group settings and informally in one-on-one and small group sessions.
  • Proactively generalize and share technical approaches and best practices among other developers and communicate success stories to broader audiences across the company.
  • Support end users to ensure they have reliable access to and understanding of data they need to trust to do their jobs effectively.
  • Work with Data Engineering teams on help implement Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes.
  • Provide support to enable data warehouse processes are followed.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or closely related field.
  • Two (2) years of post-Bachelor's progressive experience in BI and data analytics, delivering solutions that rely on effective availability, usability and understandability of data and analytical workflows.
  • Experience analyzing large, complex multidimensional datasets with data querying languages (SQL), BI tools (MicroStrategy, PowerBI, Looker, Tableau), programming languages (Python, Java, Scala), and statistical/mathematical software (R, Weka, SAS, Matlab).
  • Experience working with both structured and unstructured data, recognizing patterns within data and generating insights/delivering value; streaming analytics using tools Spark, Kafka, Storm and cloud services AWS, Azure Cloud, Google Cloud.
  • Knowledge of best practices and principles in SQL, query design, data validation/automation and analytic functions; understanding differences between various database architectures and implementations, such as Netezza, Google BigQuery, Oracle, Postgres, Teradata, DB2, SQL Server and/or Microsoft Access.
  • Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), geospatial data, GIS analysis and workflow, and cartographic and graphic design principles.
  • Understanding of data warehouse concepts, including patterns for time variance and generic vs. explicit data structures, standards-based approaches for object names and data types, and using logical data models to document and explain business objectives.
