About the position

The Senior Applied Scientist position within the AGI Information team at Amazon focuses on leveraging cutting-edge large language model (LLM) technologies to enhance conversational question answering experiences. The role involves collaborating with a hybrid team of scientists and engineers to develop innovative algorithms and modeling techniques that improve the integration of visuals in AI-driven applications. The position requires a high degree of independence and the ability to drive ambitious research agendas from conception to production, ultimately impacting Amazon's customer experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage Amazon's heterogeneous data sources and large-scale computing resources to accelerate advances in generative artificial intelligence (GenAI).
  • Lead the development of novel algorithms and modeling techniques to advance the state of the art with LLMs.
  • Collaborate with other science and engineering teams as well as business stakeholders to maximize the velocity and impact of contributions.

Requirements

  • PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience.
  • 3+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience.
  • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language.
  • Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning.

Nice-to-haves

  • PhD in Computer Sciences, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics with specialization in machine learning, or natural language processing.
  • 4+ years experience in building conversational AI and/or natural language processing systems.
  • Publications at peer-reviewed NLP/ML conferences (e.g. ACL, EMNLP, NAACL, NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, AAAI, etc.).
  • Scientific thinking and the ability to invent, a track record of thought leadership and contributions that have advanced the field.
