About the position

As a Senior Buildings Mechanical Engineer at Black & Veatch, you will play a crucial role in ensuring project compliance with applicable codes and standards while managing the scope, schedule, budget, and quality of assigned projects. This position involves creating and maintaining project schedules for mid-size to large projects, and assisting in the production of HVAC and plumbing system deliverables, including specifications, drawings, calculations, and basis of design documents for new buildings as well as renovations and additions to existing facilities. You will actively coordinate with other disciplines, clients, and contractors on projects, and mentor other staff members by sharing your knowledge and expertise. In this role, you will oversee the creation and analysis of project energy modeling and life cycle cost analysis utilizing Trace 3D and BLCC. You will also be responsible for creating 2D drawings such as P&IDs, control diagrams, and notes in REVIT. Additionally, you will perform construction period services, which include reviewing submissions and responding to RFIs. Presenting in front of large groups that include clients, peers, contractors, and end-user groups will also be a key aspect of your responsibilities. This position is part of the Black & Veatch Special Projects Corp., which focuses on providing a full range of services to U.S. Government agencies and departments, leveraging over 100 years of experience in delivering unique solutions to complex challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure project compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Create and maintain project schedules for mid-size to large projects.
  • Manage project team's scope, schedule, budget and quality on assigned projects.
  • Assist in the production of HVAC and plumbing system deliverables (Specifications, drawings, calculations, and basis of design documents) for new buildings as well as for renovation and additions to existing facilities.
  • Actively coordinate with other disciplines, clients, and contractors on projects.
  • Actively mentor and share knowledge with other staff members.
  • Oversee the creation and analysis of project energy modeling and life cycle cost analysis utilizing Trace 3D and BLCC.
  • Oversee creation of 2D drawings (such as P&IDs, control diagrams, and notes) in REVIT.
  • Perform construction period services (review of submits, responses to RFIs, etc.).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 15 years related work experience.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License is required.
  • Knowledge of building mechanical codes and ability to perform accurate load calculations.
  • Strong HVAC / Plumbing design capability in industrial, commercial, central plants, boilers, chillers and other related markets.
  • Knowledgeable in sustainable design.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Federal industry experience.
  • European, General MILCON, or Civil Works project experience.
  • Building Controls Systems Design / Building Automation experience.
  • CFD modeling experience.
