About the position

At ExxonMobil, we are seeking Senior Chemical Process Engineers to join our team in Beaumont, Texas, specifically to support Polyethylene technology at our production facility. As a Senior Chemical Process Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the successful operation of our plants, focusing on initiating and leading improvements to unit performance in safety, production, and reliability. This position requires strategic thinking, thoughtful execution, and collaboration across various teams and levels within the organization. You will serve as a senior process technical resource, providing both technical and operational expertise to address complex processes across business teams. Your responsibilities will include mentoring less experienced engineers on design practices, unit health monitoring, and troubleshooting. You will also provide off-hours support for abnormal and non-routine operations, including unit Turnarounds. Additionally, you will aid in the development of long-term vision and strategy for product line improvements, organize and design plant testing and product trials, and serve as a senior resource working with supervisors to set clear objectives and ensure priorities are aligned for the technical team. In this role, you will influence others and drive toward solutions without direct authority, working in a team environment with other engineering disciplines, operations, and mechanical personnel. You will also interface with corporate technology support and third-party vendors to optimize costs and develop solutions. As a process safety resource on the business team, you will lead Hazard and Operability Reviews (HAZOPs) and Risk Assessments, developing closure plans and strategies for identified risks. Furthermore, you will lead and support incident investigations as the technical lead and provide assistance in the field during plant startups, shutdowns, or upsets. Your ability to demonstrate courage of conviction will be essential in driving healthy tension for both the business team and corporate technology support to promote fit-for-purpose outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical leader on the business team.

  • Provide support for developing and implementing various capital projects to drive margin or mitigate SHE risk.
  • Assist in the field during plant startups, shutdowns, or upsets.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in fuels/chemicals manufacturing roles, specifically with exposure to Polyethylene production.

Nice-to-haves

  • Process design experience
  • Familiarity with advanced control strategies/optimization software
  • Working knowledge of RBI practices (corrosion damage mechanisms/mitigations, saltation, etc.)
  • Risk assessment and HAZOP experience
  • Understanding of safety relief limits (modelling and evaluations)
  • Demonstrated understanding of modelling software (PROII, ASPEN, etc.)
  • Kinetic Modelling (SOL, KBC Profimatics, etc.)
