About the position

The Chemist and Chemical Engineer position within the Reactor Plant Chemistry team at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory focuses on providing fleet support for reactor plant chemistry and cleanliness issues across the nuclear fleet. This role involves conducting trials, tests, and experiments to support engineering and production activities, as well as developing new processes and technologies to enhance cost-effectiveness and product quality.

Responsibilities

• Perform trials, tests, and/or experiments to support engineering, production, and/or R&D activities.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret data from various sources such as experiments and studies.
• Develop technically and economically sound recommendations and prepare comprehensive documented observations, analyses, and interpretations of results.
• Establish operating equipment specifications.
• Develop and recommend new processes and technologies to achieve cost effectiveness and improved product quality.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or science related field and 6 years of relevant experience; or
• Master's degree in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or
• Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part I qualified; or
• EDO qualified and 2 years EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or
• 3 years SRE qualified and Water Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and Fuel and Barrier Shift Supervisor (ECF only); or
• SRE qualified and 6 years of experience.
