About the position

The Senior Communications Specialist at the University of North Texas Health Science Center plays a pivotal role in supporting the strategic communication efforts of the Center for Health Policy. This position encompasses a wide range of responsibilities aimed at enhancing the visibility and effectiveness of the center's initiatives. The specialist will be involved in the development and maintenance of the center's website and social media platforms, ensuring that content is engaging, informative, and reflective of the center's mission. Additionally, the role requires building and nurturing relationships with existing and potential partners, facilitating community outreach, and managing event communications. The specialist will also be responsible for operational communications related to tele-mentoring models, which include webinars, podcasts, and ECHO programs. This multifaceted position demands creativity and innovation in conceptualizing and developing new communication materials that resonate with diverse audiences. The Center for Health Policy operates under three main pillars: Research, Education, and Community, all of which are grounded in health equity and the effective translation of research into actionable policy. The Senior Communications Specialist will contribute to these pillars by synthesizing complex scientific data and presenting it in an accessible format for a lay audience. This role is essential in promoting the center's initiatives and ensuring that its messages are communicated clearly and effectively across various platforms. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in strategic communications, with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and foster an inclusive environment that aligns with the university's values of respect, belonging, and access for all.

Responsibilities

  • Management and coordination of strategic communications
  • Conceptualization and development of new communications
  • Development and management of social media platforms and websites
  • Develop and maintain stakeholder communications
  • Develop, edit and/or write compelling content for online, social media and in-person use
  • Event planning, promotion and operation communications

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and three (3) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to interact with a wide range of UNTHSC personalities.
  • Ability to synthesize highly technical and scientific data and present it in an understandable format to a lay audience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters degree in Communications or related field
  • Experience with multiple strategic communication methods
