About the position

The Senior Data Engineer at SMBC will play a crucial role in the Digital Transformation of the Americas Division, focusing on the design and development of a strategic data platform for Capital Markets and Nikko Securities Group. This position requires extensive experience in software development, particularly in data-heavy systems, and a strong technical background in Azure Cloud solutions. The role involves collaboration with various teams to analyze business requirements and develop applications that enhance the organization's data-driven approach.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design and development of a strategic data platform for SMBC Capital Markets and Nikko Securities Group.
  • Establish a reference data system for securities and pricing data, and expand to other data domains.
  • Provide indirect leadership and mentorship to junior team members.
  • Follow internal development standards to contribute to the team's overall agenda.
  • Work with business teams and stakeholders to understand requirements and process gaps.
  • Engage with IT systems architects and database administrators to meet application demands.
  • Collaborate with graphic artists and front-end engineers to optimize user experience.
  • Coordinate with other technology teams for application integration.
  • Participate in development meetings to align priorities and share challenges.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of software development experience in enterprise applications, preferably in financial services.
  • Extensive experience with Azure cloud solutions and services.
  • Strong knowledge of Python, Java, or similar high-level server-side languages.
  • Advanced SQL knowledge on relational databases, preferably MS SQL Server and Azure databases.
  • Experience designing and architecting distributed systems and microservice architecture.
  • Familiarity with the DevOps lifecycle and tools like git and Jenkins.
  • Experience with Jira/Confluence and REST web services.
  • Good understanding of ETL/ELT processes and fixed-income instruments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems.
